What is PEPPOL?
PEPPOL is originally an abbreviation for Pan-European Public Procurement On-Line and is a solution for electronic procurement developed at European level to make e-commerce and e-procurement easier. PEPPOL's "four-corner model" offers many advantages. Thanks to the standard of format and means of communication, the cost of both the connection of new trading partners and the operation can be kept down. This is because PEPPOL is not based on point-to-point sets. In addition to this, PEPPOL also provides improved support for receipts and traceability.
The Peppol concept offers an alternative solution for:
- Common standards for different messages in the purchasing process such as price list, order, and invoice
- Common technical protocols for electronic communications
- Common registers that make it easy to find business partners who are affiliated with Peppol
- Common rules for collaboration between business partners and their respective operators
- An organization at European level with regional roots to develop, manage and provide support around Peppol
WHERE IS PEPPOL USED?
PEPPOL is the European standard that future communication methods will increasingly be based on, and which has also begun to be adopted by other parts of the world, e.g., in Asia, America and Oceania. According to SFTI, the previously recommended SVE format has passed its best before date and should not be used for new sets of e-invoices. Within the framework of PEPPOL, the invoice flow is the most used type of message, although other types (orders, price catalog, etc.) will eventually be used more and more. The degree of maturity of the PEPPOL standard varies greatly between different countries and industries. Thus, there may be a need for alternative ways of communicating. Through the breadth of communication methods and extensive experience, you can through Viaduct let both the "new" and the "old" coexist. In this way, the desired communication can be set up through PEPPOL at the same time as certain communication (for example through EDIFACT) is used in cases where it is necessary.
